I love when a restaurant surprises me, and my Foodie Friday pick this week was definitely a surprise! I had been to Five Loaves Cafe in downtown Charleston once for lunch when I first came to town, but it was for a business meeting so I didn’t take much time to peruse the menu and just chose an easy and safe sandwich, and that had been my experience. While the sandwich was tasty, I was too nervous and caught up in the meeting to really pay attention to the details and elements of Five Loaves that make it so special, so I was really excited to come back for a closer look.
Boy, did they floor me! They served me specials from their summer menu and everything was absolutely incredible! Also, I had no idea that they had an adorable juice bar connected next door, and I was so excited about that because I am such a smoothie/juice fan. Also, the service was so great and everyone on staff was so friendly and helpful, which really makes such a difference!
Scroll below to read more about the menu at Five Loaves Cafe and see why they captured my heart and became a new favorite of mine.
The first item I tried was the Fried Green Tomatoes Tower, and already I was hooked from the start! It has goat cheese between every layer and the chef’s special tomato basil sauce on the side. It was sooo delicious! It was such a yummy and unique twist on the traditional southern dish, and I couldn’t have been more in love. I also got the Raspberry Iced Tea, which was so refreshing on a hot Charleston day.
How gorgeous is this salad?? It’s their Spinach Salad with strawberries, blueberries, and feta cheese with white whine balsamic dressing. Literally everything I love in a salad all in one, and so crisp and fresh for a summer lunch option.
For the main course, I tried the Thai Coconut Hot Pot, which consists of handmade noodles, cabbage, kale, shiitake mushrooms, broccoli, asparagus, peas, carrots, and cilantro in a spicy Thai coconut broth. I love when a veggie option can have such pizazz! I’m more of a meat lover, so I rarely opt for a veggie menu item, but this hot pot was insanely delicious.
The second main course menu item I had was the Fillet Steak with parmesan asparagus, parsley potatoes, and roasted red pepper. The fillet was so tender and
Like I said before, they also have a juice bar that I didn’t know about! Everything is made from fresh produce, and the space was also adorable. I had something with spinach and bananas and I drank that wholllle thing, it was so good!
Thanks for reading, and definitely add Five Loaves Cafe to your list to try in downtown Charleston! Be sure and try their specials, which are always changing, because you won’t be disappointed.
