Charleston has a few neighborhoods to choose from when deciding where to grab a bite to eat. While the average tourist might stick to downtown for their short visits to Charleston, they’re missing out on so many hidden treasures outside of the peninsula by not branching out. I recently discovered a gem in West Ashley, the neighborhood west of the Ashley River, that completely floored me with their incredibly delicious southern dishes and vast and impressive cocktail menu. Plus, as locals might know, restaurants located in surrounding hoods like West Ashley are usually equipped with large parking lots and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, a luxury for most downtown spots. Ms. Rose’s Fine Food & Cocktails is officially a new favorite of mine, so I had to include it in my Charleston Food Guide.
Read on to check out my favorite dishes and drinks, and to see why Ms. Rose’s captured my attention!
What to Eat:
Ms. Rose’s doesn’t play favorites. They have equally amazing lunch, brunch, and dinner options that will all knock your socks off in terms taste as well as portion sizes for the price. Here are some of my favorites:
- Burger: 6oz. & house ground with lettuce tomato, mayo, pickles. Served with house cut fries, horseradish slaw or a house salad.
- Rose’s Fried Chicken: Buttermilk soaked, fried crispy, served with mac-n-cheese and tabasco honey sauce.
- Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breasts: Pan seared & roasted, cremini and roasted tomato risotto and bing cherry compote.
- Roasted Portabella Benedict: Sweet potato fingerling, smoked asparagus, goat cheese grits, poached eggs, side hollandaise
What to Drink:
I couldn’t get over how much variety Ms. Rose’s had to offer with their specialty cocktails! Each is made with care and full of character and creativity. Here’s a list of my favorites from the menu:
- Charleston Sour: Made with 1 1/2 oz of Elijah Craig whiskey and fresh sour mix topped with any type of cabernet.
- Matcha Mojito: Made with calorie free stevia simple sugar, muddled mint, fresh lime, and green tea powder with Kenny Chesney’s Blue Chair Bay Rum.
- Rosé This Way: The Popsicle is made with a St. Germaine liquer and blood orange juice with seasonal fruit served in a glass with a sugar rim and topped with Lunetta sparkling rosé.
- Sage Against the Machine: Made with a local Hat Trick Botanical Gin with a fresh blackberry puree, sage simple, lemon juice shakes and topped with soda water and garnished with a sage rosé.
Where to Sit:
On a nice spring day like the ones we’ve been having recently, the outdoor patio is the place to be. They have an area for games, like this fun giant Jenga, and both shaded and open patio seating. I loved the fun and colorful mural on the wall and the relaxed vibes.
If the weather’s not so great, or if there is a game you want to watch, inside is where you want to be. They have giant TV’s and projectors all over, plenty of bar and high-top table seating, plus booths and more intimate areas for a quieter time. I love the wall they created using the dishes, chairs, silverware from the previous owners! It was so unique and unexpected.
If you’re sticking to downtown and haven’t ventured out to West Ashley yet, I recommend you making the short trip over and checking out Ms. Rose’s Fine Food & Cocktails! Come for the food and stay for the atmosphere, and I guarantee you’ll be more than satisfied.

Obsessed with your skirt! I actually included this skirt in one of my posts “Spring 18 Trends Under $50” that I wrote a few weeks ago, so it was fun seeing it worn by one of my favorite bloggers! Love that you’re blogging about food now too. Keep doing what you’re doing girl!
