Fun fact: My first sit-down meal after I moved to Charleston was at Tavern and Table with my mom. It was Halloween, and we were exhausted from moving into my new apartment, but Halloween is one of my favorite holidays so I had to get out of the house and do something, and dinner felt like the perfect option. I still wasn’t familiar with all the restaurants and areas of Charleston to go out, so a friend recommended Tavern and Table because they knew I hadn’t been to Shem Creek yet. Shem Creek is in Mount Pleasant, just a bridge ride away from downtown, and there are a bunch of restaurants and bars lined up right on the water.
My friend recommended Tavern and Table out of all the Shem Creek options because they said it had the best food and atmosphere, and I absolutely agreed! You can either sit inside, at the indoor bar, on the covered patio, at the covered patio bar, or on the deck by the fire pits. So many options depending on what kind of vibe you’re going for! We were totally floored by the food and the speciality cocktail selections, too.
So, after having such an amazing time there with my mom, I decided I definitely needed to go back and add Tavern and Table to my Charleston restaurant review round-up, and give it the attention it deserves.
We got to try so many delicious plates from the menu, and even though I have a shellfish allergy (my photographer Nicole was sent home with the Shrimp and Grits and the Fire Roasted Oysters), I had to share some of their amazing seafood options since they’re some of their specialties. We are in Charleston after all! The Togarashi Crusted Ahi Tuna and the Roasted Brussel Sprouts were my favorite items we tried, and I couldn’t stop sipping on the Grapefruit Rosemary Collins cocktail between shots! It’s made of hangar one vodka, fresh grapefruit, rosemary, house-made sour, and soda, and it was such a light and refreshing drink (perfect for spring). The Winter Sangria was Nicole’s favorite!
So, if you’re looking for the most versatile spot for a bite or drink on Shem Creek, I definitely recommend you check out Tavern and Table!
