Happy Wedding Wednesday! I have had so much fun going through the wedding photos so much to create these blog posts, and I’m really excited to share this highly-requested post on my bridal look. There were a lot of little details that I didn’t share in my Bridals post that I shot a few months before the wedding because I didn’t have all of them until the actual day!
I’m going to share the details on my wedding shoes, veil, dress, jewelry, hairpiece, and my something old, new, borrowed, and blue. I hope you enjoy this photo-heavy post!
The Dress
Oh, I could write a novel on how much I adored my wedding dress. If you couldn’t tell, I especially loved how it looked from the back. I’ve always known I would wear an exceptionally “extra” dress on my wedding day, and as soon as I saw this dress I knew it was the one. Jess, the fabulous owner of Verita Bridal Boutique in Mount Pleasant, helped me sort through countless dresses when I told her what I was looking for, and this dress checked all my boxes. I knew I wanted something unique, with long sleeves, a full skirt, and some beading or crystals, and this Sottero and Midgley dress had it all!
The entire bodice of the dress was covered completely in beads sewn in a subtle geometric pattern, with pearls mixed in and a waist of jewels. I also loved that it wasn’t a pure white color. Depending on the light, the shade of the skirt varied from ivory to nude to even blush pink. It was a small detail that I loved to make it a little different than your normal gown, without being too “out there” and getting a true pink dress.
Also, I used my dress as my “Something New.”
The Shoes
`After choosing my dress, the very next thing I chose were my wedding shoes, and I already had a brand in mind. Bella Belle Shoes are definitely well-known for their stunning and intricate wedding shoe designs, and I knew I had to have a pair from them!
I’m on the taller side (5’8) but Brent is 6’5, so heels height in that regard wasn’t an issue, but I chose kitten heels because I wanted to be comfortable all night. Since I was getting such special shoes, I didn’t want to change into flats or anything, I wanted to get the most use out of them as possible! I also chose the closed-toe to be appropriate for winter, and a pair with an ankle strap so I could feel perfectly secure walking down the isle and not have to worry about tripping. The Rosa Kitten Heel in Ivory Pearl were perfect.
The Jewelry
For my wedding jewelry, I kept it pretty simple. To start, I knew I was going to be wearing a headpiece, so I wanted my earrings to be simple and elegant. I chose these small pearl drop earrings with just the right touch of sparkle from Lindsay Marie Design. I absolutely loved that the design incorporated pearl as well as Swarovski crystals, since my dress did the same. The amazing team at Lindsay Marie Design helped me choose them, and also customized the bridesmaids earrings as well! I was absolutely in love.
I decided on one simple bracelet, and it was actually my “Something Borrowed.” My sister and MOH loaned me her beautiful pearl bracelet to wear and it was perfect. It made me so happy that it came from my sweet sister, who was a dream come true helping me with the wedding, as well as an amazing role model and my closest friend. It made it mean so much more to me to wear it on my wedding day.
I loved our wedding bands, which I talked about in this blog post, but I really want to talk about my right hand ring. I wore a pearl cluster cocktail ring that my grandmother passed down to my mom, and my mom then gave to me. I have always loved this ring, and my mom told me when I was young that she would give it to me on my wedding day, and I never forgot! Again, having something to wear that was so special to my incredible mom and sweet grandmother meant a lot, especially since my grandma was actually too ill to make it to our wedding. It was nice having something of hers to feel like she was there with me. I also used her beaded clutch bag as my wedding purse, which she also passed down to my mom and my mom leant it to me.
The ring was my “Something Old,” and the blue ribbon wrapped around my bouquet was my “Something Blue.” The ribbon is really special because it was actually a ribbon from the wreath on Brent’s mom’s door the day she brought him home from the hospital. I thought it was such a sweet touch.
The Veil
Choosing my veil was probably the easiest part of my bridal look to choose! I already had something in mind, but the design also wasn’t my first priority. I knew finding one to go with the color of the tulle in my gown with be challenging, so I didn’t want to be too picky. However, Jess at Verita Bridal Boutique was to my rescue again and made it so easy for me! She pulled this Bel Aire Bridal cathedral length veil with a dusting of pearls and I was in love immediately! It was really windy when we were taking photos, so the veil didn’t stay on too long, but I loved the way it looked during the ceremony.
It had been raining the whole morning (hence the tent) but it stopped about an hour before the wedding and while we were saying our vows, the sun came through the clouds to shine on us so brightly and it felt like God was blessing our marriage. It was so beautiful, and it showed in the photos.
The Headpiece
I did a full blog post about finding my Maria Elena Headpieces, but I still wanted to include it in this post because it was such a huge element of my overall wedding day look. When I was figuring out my “theme,” I remember thinking that I wanted my bridal look to be elegant, romantic, timeless, but still unique. I didn’t want to look like any other bride, and I also didn’t want to look back at my photos and see any clear 2020 bridal look trends, so when I came across Maria Elena Headpieces, I knew I had found just what I was looking for.
I wanted a headpiece to make me feel regal without being to “tiara-y” or cheesy. Their pieces are all hand-made and amazing quality, and they are meant to give the feel of a stunning heirloom. They were so amazing to work with, and since I had to choose my headpiece from looking at photos online, they were so amazing and sent me about 10 options to try on and see what looked best on me. Plus, they had their stylist look over photos of my gown to be sure the colors and crystals would match perfectly. I couldn’t have been more pleased with it.
Thank you so much for reading!
