As you might have heard me mention (or talk about constantly) I’m completely obsessed with Derby Day and everything that goes with it! It’s such a fun day! Between the fashion, the food, and the activities, there’s never a dull moment, even though the real Kentucky Derby race only lasts a few minutes.
I wanted to really get in the spirit, so I visited my friend’s barn to hang out with some gorgeous hunter/jumper horses! The mare in the photos is Claire, and she was the best model ever for our shoot. I used to have horses, I was a barrel racer, but every time I’m around horses again I forget how big and beautiful they are (and how hard it can be to lead them in heels, haha)!
I’ve prepped for Derby Day for some time now, and I’m so excited to attend the Victory Cup Polo Match again this year. I went last year with my roomie and we had such a great time that this year, we invited a whole big group of friends to come with us! We’ll be doing complimentary drink tastings, stomping divots, checking out the polo matches, eating all the yummy food, and people-watching to find the most outrageous outfits. I wore a more simple dress with a white hat last year, and I’m going all cobalt this year!

If you’re in the Austin area, you should come check it out as well! After the fun I had last year, I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else for Derby Day (unless I was actually heading to Churchill Downs). Be sure and watch my Instagram story on May 6, because I’ll be covering my experience on there all day beginning at 10am!
Thanks for reading, y’all!
PS: Did you catch my Derby Day style feature on Love, Reese?
