Dress: ASOS US ($45!) | Bag: Urban Expression (similar) | Heels: Steve Madden
I’ve always been one to pick out dresses that are a little unique when it comes to special occasions. I don’t know if its a subconscious fear of having the same dress as someone at a party, or maybe I just like to wear what I want to wear, either way, you won’t see me post many plain occasion dresses. This dress is a perfect example of that.
This post is the first installment of a three-part holiday party look series I’m doing, with the help of an amazing hair and make-up team (Martha Lynn Kale and Lola Laymon) plus a very talented photographer (Melissa Glynn). I wanted to show three looks that I thought might be perfect to turn heads at your next party this season!
This first dress definitely has a more elegant feel to it. Because of it’s length, beadwork, and open back, I picked it for my holiday cocktail party look. It’s fabric (which is hard to tell in the photos) is a bit more on a casual side, so even though the dress is floor-length, it could easily stand next to a silk, sequin, or taffeta cocktail-length dress without looking too formal. The flutter sleeves are also more casual than a strapless or form-fitted sleeve. I honestly just love everything about this dress!! I used to hate how tall I was back in middle school, but now I feel like it’s a blessing because I can wear floor-length dresses when I’ve heard my shorter friends say they tend to stay away from them.
P.S.- If you’re dying to find out how to do these amazing retro-inspired curls, check out Martha Lynn’s blog because she has a tutorial! Trust me, I’ll be working to recreate them myself. I was so obsessed I didn’t want to wash my hair after this shoot!
Thanks everyone for reading! Stay tuned for the rest of my looks!
