On a rainy night in April of this year, a few friends and I checked out Renzo for the first time. We had pizza, pasta, and a delicious bottle of wine, and were all impressed by the cozy, chic, and romantic vibes of the space. With all the new restaurants opening in Charleston every year, a new kid on the block really has to stand out, and Renzo definitely gave us a memorable experience in my book. The food was great, and you could really see the careful touches that were put into every aspect of the restaurant, which gave it a very familiar and welcome feel.
A few months later, when my Foodie Friday blog posts became a weekly thing, I reached out to Renzo to see if I could come by for a review. Turns out the timing was perfect because their brunch menu launches TOMORROW! When I arrived, Nayda Hutson (one of the owners along with her husband, Erik) gave me a run down of their new space. The duo also owns Faculty Lounge, a fun dive bar and local favorite, so the food and bev industry is nothing new for them. What really made an impression on me was how much care Nayda puts into Renzo. While Nicole and I were doing our shoot, she was running around unpacking wine bottles, tidying up clutter from an event from the night before, calling in produce orders, and chatting with us about her beloved restaurant and what it has to offer. Her passion is clear, and it comes through in every tiny detail at Renzo.
Like I said, their brunch menu premieres this Saturday (tomorrow) at 11am, and I was lucky enough to try some of their brand new dishes before they hit the public. Y’all, these are definitely some of the prettiest dishes I’ve ever seen! Everything was packed with creativity and amazing flavor, with unique twists on traditional items (like the Detroit-style Caesar Salad) and small but elegant touches (like the tiny flowers sprinkled in the side of hot sauce). The brunch at Renzo was anything but boring, and I am thrilled to share some photos with y’all before their menu goes live to the public.
Scroll below to see for yourself! I’ll be at Renzo tomorrow with Brent for the whole experience, maybe I’ll see you there!
