As I sit here writing this blog, I’ve got the movie Down With Love on in the background and a sleeping Patsy on the couch with me. It’s a lazy Monday morning (I’m off work for MLK Day) and I’ve had my computer open for over for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to articulate the reason behind my obsession with movies. Is it the beautiful actresses, the costumes, the music, the chemistry, or the stories? Maybe it’s a combination of all of it, but I think one of the main reasons I love movies so much is the way they make you feel real emotions even though they’re clearly stories written by writers and portrayed by actors. Obviously a lot of movies are about real stories, but you know what I mean. You can be sold on completely made up love stories just as easily as you can on a movie like Walk the Line, because all the movie magic makes it feel real.
I fall in love with these movies and the characters in them. Doesn’t everyone else? Isn’t that why the streets are flooded on Halloween with Harley Quinn costumes (I was included of course.)? We saw this badass woman in Suicide Squad and wanted to be like her! I decided that while Halloween is an awesome time for me to get to have fun and dress up like my favorite movie characters, I needed more than one day a year. So, this is going to be happening a lot more on my blog throughout the year.
My first movie inspiration I decided would be Evelyn from Pearl Harbor. Why? First of all, the 40’s were an amazing time for fashion. Hairstyles were adorable, red lipstick was everything, and you wore hats and gloves to most outings. Evelyn was also such an interesting character. You loved her even though she moved on from Rafe’s death preeetty quickly, but she made it seem like she was just open hearted (plus, who wouldn’t go for Josh Hartnett circa 2001?). She was also so brave during the attack, so strong and focused, she just made me want to be like her. So, I found this adorable London Times dress, pinned up my hair, and applied my reddest red lipstick and channeled Evelyn for this shoot.
Does anyone else have a favorite movie with an actress or character that they admire?
