An asymmetrical piece is an awesome way to kick your outfit up a notch. They’re fun, interesting, and ultra-chic if worn well. They have been around for a while, but I’ve noticed a big comeback especially in the past few months. Here are a few tips on how to rock asymmetrical pieces like a boss.
#1 Don’t Be Too Dramatic
With the rest of the outfit, that is. Usually, one asymmetrical piece is enough of a show-stopper so it’s a good idea to keep the other piece simple. However, if you decide to pair two together, make sure they compliment each other and each aren’t too attention-grabbing. This denim skirt looks normal from the back and has a very subtle asymmetrical hemline, so I felt good about pairing it with this neutral-colored top with different sleeves. Had the blouse been a bright color, though, I would have matched it with a pair of jeans or something instead.
#2 Flatter Yourself
High-waisted skirts and shorts with crop tops are a favorite combo of mine because it highlights the most slender part of your waist. When choosing an asymmetrical piece, stick with the same guidelines you would normally have when shopping for yourself normally. Choose pieces that you feel great in and that flatter your figure. When you’re wearing something a little outside the box, it’s important to feel confident and comfortable.
#3 Keep it Simple
Keep your shoes, bag, and jewelry as simple as possible. Unless you’re rolling up to Fashion Week trying to be on your couture game, let the dramatic nature of your asymmetrical piece steal the show and simply compliment it with your accessories. I love a nude sandal with just about everything, but especially an outfit like this where my biggest concern is lengthening my legs and accentuating the skirt even more.
