Choker | Blouse | Shorts | Bag | Sandals
I know, I’m literally years behind on this trend. Bloggers are supposed to be ahead of fashion, but it took me a while to embrace the 90’s style trend because I literally lived through it! Give me a break! I had that plastic black choker that I wore every day (just like every girl did), so when chokers became in style again, I had a difficult time embracing them with open arms.
I wasn’t even shopping for a choker when I came across this one, but when I saw it I finally caved. Anything that comes in my favorite color is hard for me to resist. I decided that it was worth a shot, and now I’m obsessed with chokers (if you’ve hung out with me in the past month, you know I wear this choker almost every day). So, since I was officially on board the 90’s style train, I went ahead and bought a pair of high-waisted Levi’s and SURPRISE I loved them, too.
So, here are my simple tips for how to start integrating 90’s style into your wardrobe if you are a bit skeptical like I was:
#1 Start With a Small Piece
Don’t go all-in on the first hand. Start with a piece of jewelry or something so you can make sure you’re really into it. Also, you don’t want it to overtake your entire outfit if by the end of the day you decide you’re not feeling it.
#2 Try Just One Piece
I never recommend wearing trendy pieces just because they’re in style. It’s way better to be true to your own style and only wear trends if you like them! So, don’t go on a spree and buy like ten 90’s inspired pieces just to be on-trend. Just buy one you like, and if you love it, buy some more!
#3 Begin With a Casual Piece
Instead of picking a 90’s style dress for an important occasion coming up, get a casual piece so you can make sure you feel confident and comfortable in a chill setting first. I bought a velvet 90’s dress and wore it to an event a while back and ended up feeling super uncomfortable and wishing I was wearing something more “me”. I now know that casual pieces are more my style and I stay away from the trend for fancier affairs.
#4 Try a Few Things On
I always recommend trying things on because unless you buy online from a certain store all the time, it’s really hard to know your size and what you’re going to like. If you’re wondering if you’re going to like a 90’s style dress, try one on and see! You could love the way it looks on you or decide maybe it’s not your style. I never thought I would like high-necked dresses, but I tried this one on and realized it really suited me, and now I actively look for more dresses like it.
