Forget the diet today, it’s pizza time.
I’m not gonna lie, I have been in ultra health mode for the past couple of weeks to prepare for a cruise I’m going on in late May ( WHOOP!), but I’ve found that when you restrict yourself and make certain foods completely off-limits when you’re dieting, you’re more likely to crave them and relapse hard. So, instead of making myself crazy when I diet, I allow myself 1-2 cheat days a week where I don’t go totally balls to the wall, but I do let myself have one of the foods I’ve been craving. (Also, I’d like to note I’m not a professional dietitian, this is just what works for me). Since I started my Foodie Friday posts, the days when I shoot this delicious food easily became my cheat days. People often ask me what I do with all that food, and the answer is I eat it! Not all of it, of course, I usually send boxes home with my photographer or give it to Brent and his roommate.
Anyway, the point of this post is definitely not about diets, it’s about delicious pizza and where to get it in Charleston! Below are my 5 favorite pizza places and what to order at each, with a little nod to my favorite place to order delivery if you’re a local. Enjoy!
#1 Juliet
Come for the pasta, stay for the pizza. Juliet has been a favorite of mine since I first moved to Charleston. They make authentic, mouth-watering Italian pizza and pasta that keep you coming back to try different things on the menu.
Atmosphere: Cozy, casual, great for big groups.
What to Order: Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza
#2 Obstinate Daughter
The perfect spot for a nicer, sit-down, special occasion dinner on Sullivan’s Island when you want to get away from the bustle of downtown Charleston. I love a place with both a wonderful wine selection as well as great food, and Obstinate Daughter fills both criteria.
Atmosphere: Special occasion, definitely make a reservation on weekends.
What to Order: The Old Danger Pizza
#3 D’Allesandro’s Pizza
Locals love this place, they call it D’Al’s. I have personally only been once, but it definitely made a great impression on me.
Atmosphere: Chill, sit down and stay a while.
What to Order: The Get Gnarly Pizza.
#4 Sabatino’s Authentic New York City Pizza
This is where the photo above was shot! This tiny spot is tucked away on Calhoun and gives the vibes of a true New York City pizza joint. If you’re shopping on King Street and want a quick, cheap place to stop for a bite (the slices start at $3.99) Sabatino’s is the place for you. They also have really easy online pick-up or delivery service.
Atmosphere: Casual, grab-and-go.
What to Order: Traditional Pepperoni.
#5 Monza
With $6 glasses of wine, this place is a favorite of mine for date night. Their pizzas are more of a personal size, so it’s fun for two people to each get one and try each other’s and then take home some leftovers. I also love the location. It’s on King Street, so it’s a perfect spot to start the night and fill your stomach before hitting the bars.
Atmosphere: Cozy, great for date night.
What to Order: The Campari Pizza
Best Delivery for Locals: Marco’s
Why it’s my favorite: It’s one of those places that deliver but taste like you’re at a sit-down craft pizza joint. They have amazing crust and unique menu options, too.
What to order: The Pepperoni Magnifico
Enjoy, y’all!
