Yay! It’s almost Derby Day! My love for this day stems from my southern upbringing as well as my love for horses. I’ve mentioned before that I used to have a horse of my own and would compete in rodeos barrel racing, but we sold him a long time ago. It’s been years since I’ve even been around any horses, but luckily for me, I have a friend who has one and she let me come out and see her for this photoshoot! I thought, what better place to take Derby Day photos than at a barn with a gorgeous horse.
Meet Lennox. She enjoys jumping, eating grass, and looking pretty for photos 🙂 It’s crazy how easily you can forget how to be around horses, even when you were so familiar with them for so long. I seriously forgot how strong they are! Lennox really wanted to eat some grass while we were shooting, and it was really difficult for me to keep her on the trail with her head up (plus I was wearing heels, so that didn’t help). It was hilarious, you would have thought I had never led a horse in my life. She was so sweet though. When her mind drifted away to something other than grass, she was nudging me and being all adorable.
I’m so excited too because tomorrow I’ll get to see a whole bunch of horses at the Victory Cup Derby Day in Austin! It’s my first time going and I cannot wait. I saw on the schedule that there’s a Stomping of the Divots…I’m going to be just like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman! Make sure and follow me on snapchat (hrelrod) because I’ll be posting while I’m there.
