Being such a popular tourist destination, Charleston and the surrounding areas are absolutely brimming with places for its visitors to stay. However, none are quite like Post House Inn. Nestled just over the bridge from downtown Charleston in historic Old Village, Mount Pleasant, Post House Inn is a lovely and quaint place to spend a relaxing vacation (or in my case, staycation!).
Built in 1896, this building has some serious history, and the new owners who reimagined the space this year have kept its historic charm while also giving it a bit of an upgrade. They describe Post House as “A restaurant with rooms” according to Lowcountry Cuisine magazine, with one place to check in for the restaurant as well as the Inn; both being upstanding in their own special way.
The Inn
I was lucky enough to experience the food as well as the room! Room 7 has all the comforts of a modern hotel while keeping the charming feel of a cozy Inn. The powder room was beautifully updated, the bed was so comfortable, and being on the third floor gave us a nice view of the neighborhood. I also loved the representation of local artists on the walls of our room as well as the use of antique furniture.
Having only 7 rooms, each guest can feel like a king or queen with the excellent service and attention the inn is able to offer. We were greeted with such kindness, and were never endlessly waiting on the phone to get a hold of someone when we needed ice or a reservation for dinner. It was truly such a nice experience.
The Restaurant
Whether you’re looking for a dark, cozy pup to enjoy a specialty cocktail, a sunlit patio brunch, or an intimate spot for a dinner date, Post House has everything you could want in a restaurant. I have now had the pleasure of enjoying their breakfast, dinner, and bar, which have all been amazing! Their breakfast is for Inn guests, which is a standard plate of hard boiled eggs, prosciutto and cheese, a croissant, fruit, and blackberry and fig jams. It was perfect!
For dinner, I definitely recommend trying one of their delicious cocktails. I especially love their Bees Knees gin cocktail, which is served in a coupe glass with edible flowers. It’s so cute and tasty! We had the market fish and bar steak for dinner, with the caesar salad and fried polenta for appetizers. Everything was so good! I’d also gone to dinner with friends here before my stay, and I had the fried chicken which was also so good and such a big portion.
Post House’s intention behind their food is to serve amazing food as well as southern hospitality, focusing on sustainably raised meats and locally caught seafood.
We had an absolutely amazing stay at Post House Inn, and I plan to come back and try more of their menu soon!
