One of the most interesting things about Charleston to me is how valuable and impactful word-of-mouth is. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it! A lot of restaurants and shops here do such an amazing job of creating positive experiences for their customers that a huge part of their business is brought in my personal recommendations among friends, and Wine and Company definitely falls into that category. I heard about Wine and Company from two different friends before I went there finally, and both girls had such great stories about how they discovered it and what kept them coming back, and when I finally made it there I fell in love as well.
I mean, wine is wine, right? There can only be so much variation there. And while the cheese selection at W&Co is absolutely divine (they have this French Saint Andre with hibiscus crystals that gives me life), which definitely sets it apart from other wine bars in town, it’s not just the wine and cheese that brings me back and makes me want to rave about them to all my friends, it’s so much more than that! It’s the friendly, cozy vibes and positive atmosphere the owners have created that make it stand out. They don’t have formal waiters, which takes away the pressure to leave and makes you feel so much more comfortable, and the square community bar invites you to mingle with the folks sitting next to you (when Brent and I came here for our Valentine’s Day date we ended up making a new friend at the bar). Not to mention the owner, Josh, is just the nicest person on the planet. He makes friends with everyone who walks in the door and wants nothing more than for each person to connect with the place and truly enjoy themselves while they’re there. Plus, HELLO, he let me saber my first champagne bottle when I was there for this shoot! Even though the bottle was probably going to go to waste since I couldn’t stick around to drink it, his priority was creating a fun experience for me, which is so awesome.
So, if you’re looking for a wine bar in Downtown Charleston where the experience matches the high quality of the delicious wine and cheese, Wine and Company is your place! I definitely recommend checking it out (and come say hi because Brent and I are obsessed and go there all the time).
