A few weeks ago, I made the short one hour trip down to San Antonio, TX to check out La Cantera Resort and Spa. My friend Emily Lockard-Furry, who owns the travel company Traveluxe Official, thought it would be fun to get me out of Austin and check out the “staycation” scene just outside of the city limits. I couldn’t have imagined a more relaxing weekend or a more peaceful and beautiful place. Check out my photos of the property below to see everything I experienced!
When you visit, you can either stay in the main resort building (as seen up on the hill from my balcony here) or in one of their luxury Villas. Our Villa was AMAZE. It has a little kitchen, a huge living room with a fireplace, a gigantic bed, and a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. My friend Cynthia came down and stayed with me for the weekend. It’s super fun for a girls trip, but it also has a lot of romantic elements for couples.
The Villas are down the road a tad from the main resort, so each room gets their own golf cart, but they have their own pool and poolside grill right there so you don’t have to leave the Villa area to grab a drink. You can also order room service from the pool restaurant and they have a ‘smores roasting around the campfires at night.
The main resort was just beautiful! With more people and tons of restaurants, it’s more bustling than the serene area of the Villas. Each morning, we hopped in our golf cart and headed to the main resort to grab breakfast at Sweetfire Kitchen. They have a buffet option, along with a wide array of delicious breakfast and brunch foods, and it was the perfect start to our morning. There’s an outdoor patio option for seating that overlooks the gorgeous property and the hill country, or you can enjoy the AC if you’re having a later breakfast and can’t handle the summer heat. We got out start early enough one day and the patio was just amazing.
We spent most of our time at the pool, as most people did the days we were there. It was a particularly steamy weekend with highs in the 100’s, so a little cool-off was necessary, and we were lucky enough to have our own cabana at the adult pool, Topaz. Topaz has a gorgeous infinity pool overlooking the hill country (and an amazing view of the sunset in the evening) and it was the perfect place to relax, grab a drink, and soak up the sun. La Cantera also has a pool for families, I just didn’t grab any photos because I didn’t want to make any parents mad at me lol.
Our last experience right before we left the resort was the fabulous spa, Loma de Vida. This place was totally incredible! You can get a day pass to enjoy the various pools (another infinity overlooking the golf course), saunas, and relaxation areas, or you can also book an appointment for a massage or facial. I was lucky enough to get a one-hour massage and it was so relaxing I fell asleep a couple of times. We didn’t want to leave!
Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, relaxing weekend, or a fun girls or family trip, La Cantera Resort and Spa has so much to offer. A big thanks to Traveluxe Official for planning my trip!
